Media and Youth Culture

Task 1 - Music and Subcultures:

Subculture - A cultural group within a larger culture, often having beliefs or interests at variance with those of the large culture.

Teddy Boys:

The Teddy Boy;s, who were also know as Ted, were a British subculture typified by young men wearing clothes that were partly inspired by the styles worn by dandies in the Edwardian era. Teddy boys mainly listened to jazz and skiffle music, although they later became know for listening to rock and roll music. The Teddy Boys were involved with gangs a lot, and you could identify them as certain gangs wore the same colour jacket or drove the same motorcycle etc. Their involvement in gangs however wasn't too serious as the violence rate was very low along with the vandalism rate. so overall i would say the Teddy Boys influence on their followers wasn't too bad but not good as it encouraged them to join gangs.

Task 2 - Dyers Star Theory:

Chrissy Tiegen is a well-known American model and author. She is well-known from her debut modelling job for the Sport Illustrated Swimsuit Issue back in 2010 and then again on the cover alongside Lily Aldrin back in 2014. Chrissy Tiegen also is known for marrying singer John Legend back in 2013. She is known for not only modelling and being married to John Legend but for her work in representing women to be able to respect their bodies and be comfortable after an internet troll began 'fat shaming' her whilst she was pregnant with her child. Ever since then she has been an activist against fat shaming women. Also she has showed support to black Americans throughout the issues raised by Donald Trump being elected President last year. Overall Chrissy Tiegen has had a large impact as an activist for many American big-time issues.

Task 3 - A Step Back In Time:

For this task I asked my mum about what song identifies her youth. My mum said the song 'Wannabe' by the Spice Girls was her favourite song throughout her youth. She chose this song because it represented girls and gave her a 'girl power' vibe which she really enjoyed and still enjoys to this day.  Also she thought that the song gave girls everywhere a voice because to was inspirational. She also chose another song called 'Want it that way' by the Backstreet Boys. She chose this song because it reminded her of the times when she was on holiday with friends for the first time. She also said it reminded her of a time when she felt free from leaving school and the stress of starting a new job etc.

Task 4 - Hip-Hop Culture

Hip-Hop is important to young Black Americans a voice and a way to escape their reality. they never really had much due to White Americans claiming everything they created in the music industry. Hip-Hop was the one thing no one could take from them. Hip-Hop inspired them to do great things and not bother what anyone has to say to them, it gave them confidence, something to be proud of.

Eminem really inspires me as he is one of the most successful rappers in the music industry. He grew up from absolutely nothing but powered through with his ability to write song lyrics and perform them. He grew up in a predominantly black neighbour hood and was constantly bullied so he pushed all this negativity into his song lyrics. As he got older he started doing underground rap battles and that's where Dr Dre found him and signed him to his record label. his music is extremely inspiring as it shows that no matter what life throws at you if you can channel it in the proper ay you can be anything you set your mind to.

Task 5 -  Love Her or Hate Her

Ideology Project

Week 1- Task One:

Week 2- Task Two

The dominant ideology I have chosen is marriage and family, I have chosen this because it says the right way to live is through having an opposite-sex partner and children. I don’t agree with this ideology because I belive that people can be who ever they want to be, wether that be in a same-sex marriage or opposite-sex marriage, or if someone wants children and another doesn’t, by what we as an individual should be able to feel happy with their sex. To change this ideology people should just put their differences aside and accept people for who they are, no matter religion, sex, beliefs etc.

Week 3 - Task 3
The headline has a bad impact on a welfare ideology as it implicated that welfare is being wasted on people who don’t need it. It also has the impact that people who desperately need it can have it but others who are only suffering mildly aren’t entitled to it. It’s showing that there’s a higher, middle and lower classes. I think that society shouldn’t be labelled into the three different categories.

Week 4 - Task 4
Capitalism - is an economic and political system in which our country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.

Socialism - is an economic or political theory of social organization, which advocates that the means of production, distribution and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

Communism - is a theory or system of social organization in which all property is owned by the community and each person contributes and receives according to their ability and needs.

The main principles of communism is that the country should have a free economy and it’s not to be controlled by a leader instead led by the community.

Week 1-Task 1:

My definition of Creativity
Creativity: A word which means a person uses their imagination to create a story or image etc.

Official definition of Creativity
Creativity: The use of imagination or original images to create something.

There are a few similarities between my definition and the official definition such as, in both the word ‘imagination’ was used. Also in both definitions it described the word creativity as a way of creating something, such as an image or a story etc.

In my opinion I think that the official definition of creativity is better beacuse it describes the word more clearly and it’s betterly worded than my own definition. Also the definition is shorter than my own but they both mean the same thing. I also think the official definition is better because it’s easier to rember shorter sentences than it is to remember long sentences.

Week 2-Task 2:

I don’t agree with this quote because I believe that it is better to succeed in everything than it is to fail in one a suceed in the other. Is it not better to succeed at both things than it is to try in them all?

Week 3-Task 3:
The short film ‘Colour Bleed’ could be considered creative because the sense of drama in the camera shots and angles show a sign of creativity. It also shows creativity in the way the short film is designed as the characters all have a different role to play and they address it perfectly. This film could also be listed as 'creative' as the short film is unique meaning, no one has thought of the idea or made a film like it.

Week 4-Task 4:
This article inspired me to go outside and not stay in my house reading through social media. It also inspired me to read a book rather than reading about people’s lives day in day out. I think people who are ‘addicted’ to social media should read this article and be inspired to do try something different.
